#1 – Words ending with ‘-Itis’

Words ending with ‘-Itis’© Wikipedia

This simple little word means “inflammation,” which is when a body part gets swollen and then becomes uncomfortably red and puffy. This word actually sounds and feels like burning fire. How? When a part of your body is inflamed, your body sends loads of healing fluids to the affected area, increasing pressure as more fluids come in, thus the area swells and everything gets unpleasantly hot.

The most common words that end with ‘-itis’ are dermatitis, when the skin is all swollen and red, and bronchitis, when coughing irritates the bronchioles making you feel like your lungs are on fire. So whenever you hear ‘-itis’ know that something is inflamed in there (but you’ll likely already know since it usually burns like hell.)
