This one isn’t fun at all. “-Ectomy” refers to anything that’s being cut out of your body. One common example is appendectomy, which means removing the appendix, mainly because of appendicitis. (Don’t you dare ask what appendicitis is! Just calmly go back to the first page.)

Another term is “vasectomy,” which is male sterilization, and involves cutting and sealing the male vas deferens (the tubes that carry sperm from testicles to the penis) to prevent fertilization.
