Whenever the doctor utters a complicated, impossible-to-remember word, we’re often left feeling like “meh!” or thinking “what the heck does that even mean?”

I once kept struggling to remember the word “mononucleosis” for a whole month! (My memory isn’t that bad though!) Also, doctors seem to be too familiar with such complex terms that they probably assume everyone else is, while it’s total Chinese for us patients.

However, once I’ve done my research, the word started to appear quite simple. But since we can’t go researching and remembering every complex medical term, there is an interesting way to help you remember such words.

In fact, the vast majority of medical terms are a combination of an affix and a specific word. Just the same way you’d use “anti-” with another word to give it meaning, for example, anti-aging or anti-allergenic.
