#3 – Growing a GM Plant is Illegal

The GM crops are not governed so they are illegal to use unless the seeds were bought from an approved provider every year. The thing is, the seeds that are pollen from the crops can easily be drifting in the air and fly all around farms causing an accidental growing of the GM seed illegally and unintentionally.

This case happened to Percy Schmeiser, a Canadian farmer, who was sued due to finding GM plants on his land illegally although he did not use them. The farmer suspected that seeds came from the neighbor’s farm who grown the GM seeds. He was later charged guilty saying that Mr. Schmeiser “knew or ought to have known.”
