7. Rheumatic heart disease:
Rheumatic heart disease represents all cardiac complications occurring during rheumatic fever (RA). This is the main cause of acquired heart disease in children and adolescents in the Third World. The prophylactic treatment of rheumatic carditis led to a marked decrease in the frequency of severe valvulopathies, which gradually developed during relapses and recurrences.
The existence of new, more virulent serotypes and more precise epidemiological studies has led to a better understanding of the pathophysiology of the disease and a reassessment of primary and secondary prevention recommendations for RAA.
