Just like memory improvement games and vitamins, chewing gum can also provide cognitive advantages. A study published in 2011 found that chewing gum had a considerable impact on the improvement of working memory, episodic memory, and speed of perception.
The reason behind this observed improvement is yet to be fully understood, but it may have to do with the fact that chewing gum increases the flow of blood to the brain by up to 40%. By delivering more oxygen to the brain, its efficiency will increase.
That is a good reason to chew gum before an exam or presentation – when you want your brain operating at its maximum capacity.
