Well, the human brain needs the gloriously sugary carbohydrates to prompt the production of serotonin, the mood-regulating hormone. Take them off your diet, and you’ll likely start feeling irritable, grumpy, or just absentminded.
According to an Australian study conducted on overweight adults, those who had a diet that’s strictly low in carbohydrates for 1 year experienced more grumpiness than the ones who followed a diet that low in fat and higher in carbs. Note that both groups lost nearly the same number of pounds.
