#8 – Heart Disease Risk and Diabetes
Heart disease can be one of the most severe diabetes complications. So pay close attention to your risk by checking these ABCs:
A1C level: This is a measure of your blood sugar control on average for the last 2 to 3 months. You might need to check it two or more times per year. It is important to talk to your doctor about setting a goal.
Blood pressure: Your goal here should be keeping your blood pressure under 140/80 mm Hg.
Cholesterol: LDL should be 100 mg/d or less, while HDL should be more than 40 mg/dl in men and above 50 in women; and triglycerides should be under 150 mg/dl.
