A simple warm touch can have tremendous benefits for your brain health as it calms tension and promotes oxytocin production by stimulating the vagus nerve.

Researchers from the University of Wisconsin and the University of Virginia told sixteen adult women that they were about to be shocked with electricity and studied their brains activity using fMRI scanners.

In some cases, the women were holding their partners’ or a stranger’s hand while anticipating the shock. In other situations, they were all alone. As a result, when the ladies held their partner’s hand, they were more relaxed than when they held a stranger’s hand, plus, they experienced the highest stress level when they were anticipating the shock alone.
