Rabies can be deadly if not treated immediately after being bitten by an animal (in most case, a dog.) As soon as the symptoms start showing up, the chances of survival go down to as little as 8 percent and death can occur within 2 to 10 days.

In fact, rabies causes about 55,000 deaths worldwide, mostly in India and Africa. In the beginning, the infectious disease affects the central nervous system, damaging the brain and leading to death.

Common symptoms include hydrophobia, uncontrolled excitement, violent movements, and severe pain. The most famous symptom though is the foaming at the mouth due to over-production of saliva.
