Cholera is one of the most popular infectious diseases that’s known for its catastrophic consequences. This disease can easily infect people through contaminated food and water. According to history, when cholera hits a community, it kills at least half of it.

Even nowadays, it is estimated to cause 120,000 annual deaths, compared to millions in the past. Cholera kills a person using quick dehydration, with severe symptoms including constant vomiting and diarrhea.

It was estimated that patients can produce up to 20 liters of diarrhea in one day. What’s awfully dreadful about cholera is that its treatment (which is based on fluids and electrolytes) is easy and affordable.

When treated, only 1% of all cases can be fatal, but if left untreated, fatality rates can reach more than 60%. Cholera is like a highway to death, as it can kill an infected person within hours without treatment.
