Some heartburn sufferers do not do well with either onion or garlic. It actually depends on each individual. That’s why it’s important to pay close attention to what you eat and try to reveal the culprits behind that awful heartburn, especially if you experience too often.

To avoid heartburn, experts suggest keeping a food log so you can track the foods that trigger your heartburn and also try to develop a list of safe foods. Foods that are on the safe side of the heartburn food list include cottage cheese, toast, baked sweet potatoes, and broiled chicken.

Mexican food, pepper, chili, and any other food that’s full of pepper or other spices can stimulate heartburn. Avoiding heartburn isn’t necessarily a matter of either all or nothing.

In case spicy food makes you develop heartburn, simply cut it off. And then, start to slowly reintroduce milder versions of whatever dishes you like.

Avoid hot/spicy sauces, chili peppers, and any dish prepared with hot or spicy stuff. Also, when eating out in restaurants that offer Thai or Indian food, make sure to ask for ‘no-spice’ food.
