Invented in the Mexican city of Puebla, chile relleno is a stuffed chili pepper filled with sodium and saturated fat. Inside you will find melted cheese, diced pork, and other meats.

Like chimichangas, chile relleno is deep-fried – sometimes in lard (aka pig fat)! It may not hurt you now, but in the long-run, eating too much of this Mexican dish will lead to clogged arteries. No one wants that!

Street food is actually quite common in Mexico. But just like most other places in the world, when it comes to fruit and vegetables, it is essential that the product is adequately rinsed to clean off chemicals and pesticides.

So if grabbing a quick bite from a cart in CDMX, ensure that your food has been washed, or that you at least see some kind of clean running water supply near the merchant, for a little extra peace of mind.
