#5 – Myth #5: high-quality eggs sink, bad-quality eggs float

People believe that they can know if an egg is infected with salmonella, a bacterial disease that results from contaminated water or feces and causes food poisoning, if the egg sinks which is actually a false assumption!

Whether the egg you throw into a container floats or sinks, you can’t know for sure if it’s good or bad.

You also can’t know if Salmonella is present or not just by looking at an egg, it could literally be on the eggshell or inside of it and you won’t even know. That is why it is recommended that you cook your eggs fully which kills harmful bacteria in them.
