The causes of headaches are many. In cancer patients, certain types of chemotherapy administered directly into the cerebrospinal fluid (intrathecally) can irritate the membrane surrounding the brain and spine, leading to headaches.
Here are other causes of headaches in cancer patients:
– The tumor itself.
– Infection.
– Medicines other than chemotherapy.
– Brain radiotherapy.
– Immunotherapy or biological treatment.
Other disorders or symptoms that a patient may have such as anemia, hypercalcemia, low platelet count, or dehydration due to severe diarrhea or vomiting. Stress, fatigue, and insomnia can also play a role in the frequency of headaches.
