toxic ingredients in beauty products This one may crush those of you who love to wear glitter in your makeup, but the truth is, glitter harms our aquatic ecosystems, making it a bad product for the environment. Not only that, but biodegradable glitter is a problem as well… So how can you shine and still be eco-friendly? You can either go into creative mode and use tiny flowers or petals for a fun look, or buy edible glitter, which is not as common as normal glitter, but you can still find it in some stores, or you can make your own!
7. Nail polish
There’s no surprise in learning how flammable and toxic nail polish is. I mean, have you smelled it? Some may smell more strongly than others, but one thing they all have in common? They all go straight to the landfill, causing the same negative impact on pollution. Besides looking into the nail polish itself, you also need to keep in mind what type of packaging they have. Is it Glass? or some toxic products like plastic. Plastic is something to avoid, but there are amazing eco-friendly nail polish brands out there like Zoya, that offer a free-toxin solution as well as eco-friendly packaging.
8. Hair dye
You’re probably aware of ammonia and the bad consequences it has not only on your hair but the aquatic life as well. Even in low quantities, ammonia can be deadly for animals who are exposed to it. And to us humans, it can cause itchiness, watery eyes, and overall a bad reaction that can sometimes feel like an allergy attack. Thankfully, there are many brands out there whose products are ammonia-free, making them not as aggressive and safer to use! Henna dyes are also very popular! Ultimately, you don’t need to sacrifice beauty and your normal lifestyle just to do your part in taking care of our environment. All it takes is some adjustment and a strong will to change!
