If restaurants fail health inspections, they get shut down immediately. But, supermarkets have no obligation to shut down even if they fail health inspections 10 times in a row.

Grocery stores get inspected, of course, but health departments are short-staffed and are too focused on restaurants than supermarkets. The truth is, they are not even obligated to let customers know they have failed a health inspection.

The supermarkets’ scores are never published online. However, you can ask to check them out while visiting one.
