The treatment actually depends on the diagnosis. In case your doctor found out that your palpitations aren’t threatening to your health, you may want to consider making some lifestyle changes to limit your palpitations, such as quitting smoking and avoiding common cold medications and certain foods and beverages.

If your palpitations are a serious threat, your doctor may prescribe anti-arrhythmic drugs, like a calcium channel blocker or beta-blocker, as they keep your heart rate regular by enhancing blood flow throughout your body.

These medications would often treat your conditions within several hours, but they usually take several months to several years to treat conditions associated with arrhythmia.

And in case your palpitations are life-threatening, your doctor may resort to a pacemaker or defibrillator to help get your heart rhythm back to normal. These treatments offer instant results. You may also be monitored over a few days or a few years to continue treating your heart palpitations properly.
