3. What are the risks of palpitations?
Most of the time palpitations are benign (“neuro-vegetative dystonias”), but in some cases, they may correspond to a true heart rhythm disorder or heart or other organs (hyperthyroidism) diseases that should be explored and treat.
The main fear is a loss of consciousness in the case of arrhythmia or angina pectoris and a myocardial infarction if the heart rhythm is too fast.
