You can find many clothes that are made of elastane, also known as spandex or lycra, such as T-shirts, sports bras, underwear, etc. Unfortunately, many people are not aware of how it can harm them.
Although elastane is breathable, the chemical substances by which it’s produced can cause skin irritation like dermatitis, eczema, allergies, and contribute to bacterial vaginosis which is a type of vaginal inflammation caused by excess bacteria.
It is highly advisable to wear cotton underwear or lingerie rather than nylon and other fabrics that don’t let your skin breathe.
Unlike lightweight breathable fabrics that are derived from living organisms, such as cotton, silk, and wool, and other skin-friendly fabrics, elastane, acrylic, rayon, polyester, and nylon can make you extremely uncomfortable in your own skin so try to avoid them!
