Overdosing on some prescription drugs like stimulants and anti-psychotic medications can cause hallucinations and delusions due to an overactive dopamine system.

Hallucinations affect all of your senses, so when you hallucinate due to a drug overdose, you may see images, hear voices, or smell odors that aren’t there.

Immediately call 911 if you notice that a loved one is hallucinating.

Lastly, if you experience the early symptoms of a drug overdose, do not drive yourself to the hospital, call 911 immediately.

If a loved one overdoses on drugs and is unconscious, until an ambulance arrives, place them on their back and perform rescue breathing as soon as possible to prevent a drug overdose death.

If they’re hallucinating or losing consciousness, ask them questions to keep them engaged while performing rubbing their knuckles, which is known as sternum rub, to test their level of consciousness.
