As we have mentioned, drugs influence your nervous system. your heart rate is controlled by the two divisions of your automatic nervous system; the parasympathetic nervous system and the sympathetic nervous system.
So, when you overdose on prescription drugs, especially stimulants, antidepressants, and opioids — oxycodone, fentanyl, and hydrocodone— used as pain killers, your heart may beat too fast, too slow, or irregularly and cause chest pain.
Other opioids overdose symptoms include shallow breathing, small pupils, sweating, low blood pressure, drowsiness, and gradual loss of consciousness caused by a slowed nervous system.
