We all know how many germs and bacteria can accumulate in our houses even if we clean it weekly, we still need to be careful about keeping certain objects clean like our phones which collect a lot of outside bacteria as well. When it comes to hospitals, they can be some of the germiest places ever! After all, it’s normally full of people, especially sick people, and infectious diseases. Hospital-acquired infections are normally the most dangerous ones; that’s why we came up with this list of all the things you should avoid touching in hospitals!

1. Elevator buttons

Not just a hospital elevator, but any kind of elevator is prone to loads of germs, especially the buttons that everyone touches. You might be aware of this and thinking there’s nothing you can do; after all, when you go inside an elevator, you’re obligated to push the button or pray for someone else to do it for you! We’re aware that buttons are meant to be pressed. What you can try to do, is trying to put your sleeve covering your knuckle and press the buttons, if not possible, use your knuckles instead of fingers. When we touch our faces, we normally use the palms of our hands, which includes our fingers. That’s why knuckles are the safest part of your hand when it comes to pressing buttons!

2. Bed rails

Think about it, what are bed rails made of? Steel. And guess what can live in steel for weeks or even months? That’s right, bacteria. And even though hospitals must be cleaned daily, you’ll probably notice your bed rails won’t be cleaned as often or at all. That’s why you should avoid touching them with your bare hands, whether you’re sleeping on the bed or your visiting someone. Don’t do it! If you’re a patient and you count on these rails for support to get on top of the bed, then make sure you clean them with some antibiotic wipes first or ask someone to do it for you. 3. Privacy curtains

If you’re not aware of what these hospital curtains are, think about a normal hospital room; near the hospital bed, you’ll find these curtains that are usually used for the patient to have some privacy. It is not only patients who touch these curtains, but doctors, nurses, and visitors do as well. And just like the bed rails, these aren’t cleaned as often as the hospital floor is, for example. And because they are very near the sick patients, they likely contain a lot of dangerous bacterias.
