Heavy, long-term drinking can lead to alcoholic neuropathy, in which the body’s peripheral nerves get damaged and lead to unusual sensations like numbness and pain in the limbs, and reduced mobility.
Damage to the peripheral nervous system is common among alcoholic people who also have nutritional deficiencies. Vitamin deficiencies can also play a part in the development of alcoholic neuropathy.
If you’re a heavy drinker, your risk of developing some form of neuropathy is as high as 66%. It would be wise to reduce your alcohol intake before it’s too late.
