Many sunscreens contain UV-ray absorbing chemical oxybenzone. According to the Environmental Working Group, oxybenzone is a potent absorbent ingredient that mimics estrogen in the body as well as it has a high risk of causing skin allergy.
Other synthetic chemicals you need to watch out for when shopping for sunscreen are methoxycinnamate, homosalate, avobenzone, PABA, and benzophenone. These can even cause cancer and are toxic to the environment as well.
To protect your skin and overall health, look for brands that contain titanium dioxide and zinc because they can block UV rays without being absorbed by your skin.
