Phthalates are commonly used to make perfumes, hairspray, nail polish, and lotions. But the fact that they are key components of plastics is quite concerning. According to Harvard School of Public Health, high levels of phthalates caused DNA damage in human sperm and might be associated with other cellular damage too.

The problem is that even if you scan the label before buying any beauty product, you won’t find phthalates because they’re either hidden in the term “fragrance” or not listed altogether.
