#3 – Foot Exam:
Ulcers or foot infections are among the main complications of diabetes, both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. The disease is responsible for the vast majority of non-traumatic amputations (That is to say, not related to an accident), in developed countries as elsewhere.
Given the potentially dramatic consequences of an ill-cared “diabetic foot”, it is essential for people with diabetes to pay particular attention to this part of the body.
Each year, have sensitivity test (monofilament test in particular) and the condition of your feet to detect any lesions or wounds (diabetic neuropathy, arteritis …). Depending on your risk of lesions (grade), a suitable preventive and/or curative follow-up will be prescribed by your doctor.
