The reason why salt is considered as one of those food items that take quite a long time to expire is that salt is a mineral, which is extracted from mother Earth, therefore, its permanence should not be surprising at all!
In fact, salt was used over the centuries to remove the moist and preserve other food items. However, the iodized salt cannot last forever as the added iodine evaporates which in return spoil the salt quality and reduces its shelf life. Hence, the iodized salt may only last for one year.
