2. Inside the stall

After you’ve picked the cleanest stall, it’s time to lock the door and do your thing. You can use a tiny piece of toilet paper to lock the door without directly touching the surface.

Unless you have any open cut on the lower part of your body, don’t worry too much about the toilet seat itself. To catch something dangerous from it – such as a urinary tract infection– the germs on the seat would have to travel into your genitals or urinary tract.

And that is almost impossible. However, you should definitely clean the toilet seat with paper towels or even use antimicrobial wipes if you usually carry them in your bag.

Once you are done, it’s time to push the toilet flush handle – another area that has a high number of germs. Again, pick another piece of paper and use it to flush. If the toilet has a lid, closing it before flushing will prevent germs from being released into the air and contaminate other parts of the bathroom stall.

Additional tip: don’t put your bag down on the floor right in front of you. That spot contains a huge amount of bacteria that can easily spread to your bag. Instead, use the hangers that many bathroom walls have that are provided exactly to avoid this problem.
