Someone Fainted? Here Is Why And What To Do

  • If someone fainted next to you, lie them down on their backs and make sure they are breathing. If possible, lift their legs above heart level to push blood to their brain.
  • Take off any constrictive clothing like belts or collars.
  • If someone fainted and they are not breathing, start doing CPR immediately.
  • Call 911 and continue doing CPR until help arrives.
  • When they regain consciousness, let them rest. Don’t rush them to sit or get up.
  • If they have diabetes and missed a meal, give them a sweet or hard candy to immediately raise their blood sugar levels.

4. What to NOT do when someone faints

Many times on the TV, we see how people respond to a fainted person in a funny way. These reactions should not be used in real-life situations, including:
  • Slapping them.
  • Shout at them.
  • Shake them.
  • Throw water on them.
  • Try to move them.
  • Placing a pillow under their head.
  • Make them stand up or sit.
