You probably already brush your teeth daily. But do you do it the right way? And do you floss afterward? To be fully effective, you have to know and master these two techniques because they are the best way to remove bacterial and prevent plaque buildup. And if you are already doing it, you might as well do it right.

You should brush your teeth for about two minutes, twice a day (including before going to bed). Here’s how to do it properly:

  • Use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste.
  • Keep your toothbrush at a forty-five-degree angle to the gums.
  • Alternate between the back and forth movements in short strokes and a circular motion.
  • Make sure the entire surface of the teeth is covered.
  • Clean your tongue – Spit out the toothpaste without rinsing (this will ensure your mouth continues protected against tooth decay) Teeth flossing is just as important as brushing, and you should do it at least once a day.

Here’s how to do it properly:

  • Use approximately 18 inches of floss and wind most of it around each middle finger (leave 2 inches of floss in between them).
  • Hold it right between your thumbs and the index fingers.
  • Slide it between your teeth in gentle up-down movements.
  • Reach beneath the gum line by curving the floss around the base of each tooth.
  • Please switch to the clean parts of the floss as it will get dirty from tooth to tooth.
