By now, you know how to wash your hands properly; you recognize the importance of hygiene when trying to stay healthy, because of how important it is for disease prevention. However, there are some everyday objects and places that don’t seem all that dirty, and maybe you touch or handle them and don’t consider washing your hands afterward. So, always wash your hands after you touch any of the following ten things, or at least clean your hands using hand sanitizer or hand sanitizing wipes.
1. Petrol Pumps
Take the number of bacteria you would normally find on the toilet seat of an average household and multiply it by 11,000 – that’s how much bacteria can be found on petrol pumps. Imagine the huge number of people that touch those petrol pumps, gross, right? Do you usually wash your hands after pumping petrol? It’s a good time to start.
2. The buttons on elevators
Elevators are such a great invention, saving everyone the trouble of having to go up and down the stairs. But what does that mean? It means that the elevator buttons are super dirty, harboring all sorts of germs and bacteria – especially number 0. Whether it’s the elevator in your apartment building, the elevator at your office, or the elevator at the mall, they are all dirty. Of course, you can’t go through all the steps to wash your hands when you are inside an elevator, but you are aware of the importance of hygiene, and that is why you should carry a small hand sanitizer dispenser with you at all times.

3. The handrails on escalators
The mall, public transportation, airports – the majority of these places are equipped with escalators, and it’s the best way to go. Imagine all the thousands of people that pass by those places every single day going up to regular stairs all at the same time. It sounds like a nightmare, right? However, the handrails of the escalator are quite dirty, and we all tend to hold on to it. This can be avoided unless you need the support of the handrail, in which case you should wash your hands, or at least disinfect them with a wipe.
