Whole grains, such as oats and wheat, are recommended for their various health benefits, but can sometimes cause gas problems. Whole grains are so healthy due to their high fiber content. But fiber is an indigestible carbohydrate.

Whole grains also consist of starch and raffinose. All of these elements are broken down by bacteria in the gut, which results in gas production. Interestingly, rice is the only grain that does not cause gas.

#4 – Vegetables

Certain vegetables are likely to cause excess gas, notably Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, green cabbage, red cabbage, and asparagus. If you are prone to flatulence, it is better to avoid eating these veggies too often!

Cruciferous vegetables, in general, contain raffinose, a substance that tends to ferment in our stomach once ingested, and then produce a lot of gas. Moreover, as the cabbage contains sulfur compounds, it should never be eaten before flying because the flatulence emitted is often quite nauseating.

To reduce the gas effect from cabbage, cook it crucifer in a steamer and discard the first cooking water. These veggies, however, are super healthy foods, so don’t eliminate them completely from your diet without consulting your doctor.
