#4 – Food Waste
America is wasting 40% of its food in both the production and consumption processes, and over 1/3 of food is wasted all around the world, equating to 1.3 billion tons per year.
That’s not the only issue, the food is getting rotten in landfills, causing our environment and climate to change as the methane emitted by rotten food expands 23 times more powerfully than carbon dioxide.
In developed countries, the biggest cause of food waste is the harvesting and storage techniques, while the consumers waste it because of quality or safety concerns.
The U.S government should conduct studies to figure out the shocking losses of the food and find ways to improve the agricultural groundwork, while consumers should pick the quality of their food wisely and buy the needed amounts only.
