#3 – Biofuels Production
Biofuels are fuels made from organic matters such as animals and plants (corns, palm oil, sugarcane, etc). Sadly, these Biofuels can be very harmful to the environment and the food system as well. The agricultural passion to produce food-based Biofuel caused displacement of people globally and raised the prices of food.
The need to produce more food-based Biofuels created a global competition over the land; small farmers could not win or even compete against these big companies which made it impossible for them even to maintain their own property. Presently, less than 5 corporations control 47% of ethanol production in the U.S.
