Binge drinking has been linked to an increased risk for certain cancers, such as throat, mouth, liver, and breast cancers. But, how? Alcohol gets converted to a toxic chemical (acetaldehyde) after it’s broken down in the body.
Acetaldehyde can damage both the DNA and the body’s proteins, harming the cells as well. Alcohol also produces free radicals which make cells oxidize, causing healthy cells to grow uncontrollably until they become cancerous.
