Cold compress

It has been known for generations that cold compress is impressively effective for reducing any gum swelling or inflammation. You can easily make your own compress by soaking a clean towel in cold water and putting it in the freezer for about 15 minutes to cool down.

Or, you can fill a sealable bag with water and ice, and then wrap it up with a damp towel. Using a bag of frozen produce is also beneficial in such situations. You can use a bag of peas, for example.

Apply it for 10 minutes, then take a break for 10 minutes, and repeat. Remember that you just want to decrease the pain and not freeze your face.
