2020 has been quite a peculiar year in which we have had to adapt our habits and routines to suit this so-called “new normal”. The quarantine is over, and life couldn’t really stop forever. With a few changes here and there, it has been possible for us to manage to live our lives as normally as possible. But going to the supermarket has new rules, going to a restaurant has new rules, and the use of ride-share services, like Lyft or Uber, also has new rules. It’s important to obey these rules as they help ensure your safety and the safety of the driver who is just doing their job. So, out of social responsibility, here is a list of things you shouldn’t do in Ubers right now.

9. Don’t call an Uber if you have any flu-like symptoms

Rule number one of what not to do in an Uber at the moment: do not get into an Uber if you are feeling sick. You wouldn’t visit someone you care about if you felt ill, so you need to extend that same level or respect to your Uber driver. This is something we should have been considering a long time ago, but this global pandemic has come to make it more obvious. If there is even a small chance that you might make someone sick with a viral infection, stay at home. Get tested, get better, be considerate.

8. Always keep your face mask on

Wearing a mask is not really comfortable, but public health stands over comfort. Do it for yourself and do it to protect the people around you. The mortality rates associated with Covid-19 are higher for people who already suffered from underlying health conditions. Maybe this isn’t the case for you, but what if it’s the case for your Uber driver? Or someone in their family? It is impossible to do social distancing inside an Uber, so the least you can do is keep your mask on to provide a safe environment for both you and your driver.  [ads shortcode=”td_responsive”]

7. Avoid eating inside the car

Contemporary lives can be quite busy. We keep running to try and get everywhere, and sometimes there isn’t much free time to grab something to eat, so you pick up something and eat it “on the go”. This is absolutely fine if a) you are riding in your own car or b) you are walking and eating. However, eating inside an Uber during these times is a big no-no. You will have to remove your mask to grab a bite, and as we have mentioned before, your mask should be on at all times. Plus, even after we go back to normal, we should normalize not eating in other people’s cars since our meal might leave behind an unpleasant smell that can linger for the rest of the day.
