The new statistics might really scare the hell out of you! The average kitchen sponge is found to be teeming with harmful germs and bacteria. Even worse, the sponges can also grow new bacteria every 20 minutes, which means that no matter how hard you try to rinse and wring it, the harmful bacteria will still be there including E.coli and salmonella.

However, this doesn’t mean that there is no effective way to clean your sponges for a safer use. For the most sanitary results, we recommend filling a large container with one part bleach and nine parts water and then swirl it together.

After this, you can bring a bowl where you can soak your sponge and completely cover it with the solution. Let there for 10 to 30 seconds and then remove it, rinse and wring it out in water to remove the bleach.
