While all diseases are terribly terrifying, some are worse than others! Ecologically, infectious disease pathogens evolve with the sole purpose of spreading more efficiently. Unfortunately for their hosts, these pathogens come with horrid deaths.

It would be reasonable to think that a pathogen’s interest would rather be keeping the host alive the longest time possible in order to spread to the largest number of people possible, but this is not the case. (Sounds both sadistic and terrifying!)
