This condition can vary: you can have hyponychium thickening is just one nail, in many or, sometimes, in all of them. Usually, the symptoms involve the skin (hyponychium) connected to the nail as it grows; white skin under fingernails (or pale); tenderness; and painful skin under fingernails.

What are the causes?
