Let’s face it! There is always nasty bacteria and germs lurking in the water but as long as the pH and Chlorine levels in the pool are well maintained, all these harmful bacteria will be killed and therefore you will be safe and sound said Dan DeSimone, who is an infectious disease consultant at Mayo clinic.
For your own safety, we recommend that you check the list of local and state health department that the Water Quality and Health Council has stated in its report. This way, you can easily find which public swimming pool is actually in good health and which one to avoid!
Unfortunately, it is very common to find Crypto or Cryptosporidium in pools. This nasty germ can survive for hours and even for days in the water and can cause debilitating health issues such as painful diarrhea for up to two weeks.
To lower your risk of getting infected by this harmful bacteria, don’t swallow pool water and in case you are sick and have diarrhea, please stay out of the pool for other people’s safety.
